Maintenance or Custodial Opening at Mechanicsburg Public Library

Due to retirement, Mechanicsburg Public Library has an opening for part-time employment.  This opening will be filled using our Maintenance Technician or our Custodial position description based on applicant qualifications.  The pay range for the Custodian position begins at $9.00 and the pay range for the Maintenance Technician begins at $12.00.  Apply by completing an application or submitting your resume to Mechanicsburg Public Library, 60 South Main Street, Mechanicsburg, Ohio, 43044.  Candidates for employment applying before November 25, 2018 will be given preference.

Position Description Mechanicsburg Public Library
MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Reports to: Director
Works collaboratively with: other staff, licensed specialists, and community partners
Supervises: volunteers
Employment categories:  full-time or part-time, hourly
Responsibilities:  Under general supervision, the Maintenance Technician provides coordination of the care and improvement of the physical location of the Mechanicsburg Public Library.
Qualifications: Experience and a high school diploma or equivalency required.  An individual who poses a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves or others in the workplace is not qualified for this position. 
Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, and operation of mechanical equipment.  Physical strength and dexterity to frequently lift or push moderate to heavy items (6-40+ pounds) and place on low and high shelves.
Knowledge to acquire and maintain:  policies and procedures, equipment, staff, suppliers, and contractors specific to the Mechanicsburg Public Library.
Skills & Abilities:  Work flexible hours including weekends and evenings.  Make purchasing decisions of supplies and work with money within budget guidelines.  Utilize both verbal and written communication effectively.  Work effectively with supervisor, staff, and contractors.  Work independently.  Deal with difficult situations effectively.  Accept the responsibility for the care, condition, appearance, repair, or replacement of all physical equipment, buildings, facilities, and grounds.  Use hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, and hammers to fix, replace, or repair equipment and parts of buildings. 
Duties: Meet with Director to recommend repairs and estimate costs. Keep detailed records of work.  Responsible for recognizing when a job requires a licensed specialist like a plumber, electrician, carpenter, etc. with specific expertise and equipment.  Inspect building and grounds periodically to find, diagnose, and (if appropriate) repair problems.  Assist in the promotion of good safety practices and procedures.  Do routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly.  Do general cleaning and order supplies from catalogs and storerooms.  Perform additional duties and assignments as required.
